Charleston South Carolina Shopping

(Try keyword "Women's Fashions" or a ZIP code)

Founded in 1670, Charleston has survived war, hurricanes, and an earthquake, to rock with shopping options from indigenous regional craft boutiques to antique shops and malls. Charleston Cooks!, on Bay Street, is the place for high-performance kitchen tools. Also on Bay, the Smoking Lamp, Charleston's oldest smoke shop, is the city's only Davidoff appointed merchant. Classic Charleston, on Market Street, features works by area artisans, including sterling jewelry designed after the famed historic Charleston gates. On King Street, George C. Birlant & Company Antiques celebrates more than three-quarters of a century anchoring historic Charleston's Antiques District, which also has the King Street Antiques Mall with affordable antiques, silver, glass, and collectibles. Nice Ice Fine Jewelry, on Market at King, stocks Philip Stein watches, along designs by Slane & Slane, Marco Bicego and Dominique Cohen. Khoury Oriental Rugs, on Wentworth Street, specializes in hand-knotted Persians. Ted's Butcher Block, on East Bay Street, attracts with gift baskets, prepared meals, wines, cheese and catering. Boutiques for apparel include King Street's Bits of Lace, Houston Northcutt Boulevard's Rush to Blush, Eighty-Two Church Children's Shop, now moved to Broad Street, and King Street's Moo Roo Handbags. Rhett Butler's, on Market Street, stocks gifts and t-shirts from embroidered to collegiate fare -- "Southern Girls Don't Sweat. They Glisten."

The French Hare, also on King, handles needlepoint, wrought iron, majolica, whimsical lighting, and handmade stationery. Upper King's Putumayo ranks as a destination for hip shopping, and the Finicky Filly stocks Paige jeans, Italian scarves and Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry. Established in Charleston on King and now with other locations, The OOPS! Co. specializes in clothing made for mail order catalogs for men, women and kids at about half catalog prices. The Trunk Show, on Meeting Street, packs in affordable alternatives for vintage clothing, fine furnishings, and accessories. Citadell Mall, on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard and anchored by Belk, Dillard's, Sears, and Target, also features the only Parisian and Bombay in the area, plus more than 100 other specialty retailers. Northwoods Boulevard's Northwoods Mall, anchored by Belk, Dillard's, JCPenney, and Sears, has more than 130 stores from Gymboree to Victoria's Secret, plus restaurants and a food court. Charleston museum shops are also hot, with the Historic Charleston Museum Shop stocking city-related books, garden furnishings, and many items under license from the Historic Charleston Foundation. The Drayton Hall Museum Shop features an unusual collection of low country foods, giftware and decorating accessories, and the Preservation Society of Charleston also features books and gifts.
